Cool Easy Tools, trading as Cool Easy Cut, is the data controller for the small amount of personal data involved in selling Cool Easy Cut. Contact: [email protected].
This website
This site sets no cookies, runs no analytics, and loads nothing from any other company — no fonts, no scripts, no trackers. There is no consent banner because there is nothing to consent to. Our hosting provider, Cloudflare, processes standard server request data (such as IP address) to serve and protect the site.
Your recordings and edits
We never receive them. Recordings, edits, narration audio and exported files are stored by the extension in your own browser's storage on your own computer, and are never uploaded to us. There is no cloud rendering and no account holding your work.
Screen, tab, microphone and webcam capture happen only while you are recording, and only of what you chose to record. Chrome asks you before the extension first uses your microphone or webcam. Tab and system audio are captured only if you tick that option for the take.
When you record a tab, and only in that tab, the extension logs the identity and position of elements you click, and the title and path (not the full address or any query string) of pages you navigate to, so it can draw the cursor and draft annotations. It can do this only after you have approved that tab by invoking the extension on it, or turned on Follow cursor & clicks in the recording window, which Chrome asks you to confirm. It never records field contents, typed characters, or anything inside a password field, and this log stays on your machine with the rest of the take. Following can be turned off again in the same window.
AI features (optional)
The AI features are off until you set them up in the extension's Settings page, and each one runs only when you ask it to. You choose where each request goes: OpenRouter, Anthropic, OpenAI, Google Gemini, or an AI server running on your own computer (such as Ollama or LM Studio). With a cloud provider, the request goes directly from your browser to that provider using your own API key. It never passes through us, and that provider's privacy policy governs what they do with it. We do not screen or filter what is sent: the frames and audio are yours, and the provider's own usage policy applies to them. A provider may decline a request; the editor then says so and changes nothing. With a server on your own computer, nothing leaves your machine.
What each feature sends, and only when you start it:
- AI assist (suggested edits and annotations) and Write-up (documents and social posts about a take): sampled frames of the recording, its interaction log, and any notes you typed in the panel.
- AI narration (text to speech): the narration script you are having read aloud.
- Captions (speech to text): the audio of the narration or clip being captioned.
Your API keys are stored locally in the extension's own storage and are sent only to the provider they belong to. To show model names and prices, the editor reads OpenRouter's public model list; that request carries no key and none of your data. If you never set up an AI feature, nothing else is ever sent to any AI provider.
Buying a licence
Payment is taken by Stripe, our merchant of record. We never see or store your card details. Stripe collects the information the payment and tax rules require — name, email address, billing country and payment details — and acts as data controller for that. See Stripe's own privacy policy for what they do with it. Pressing Buy takes you to Stripe's hosted checkout page; just reading this site contacts no one else.
When your payment completes, Stripe tells our licence service the transaction and your email address. We use it for two things only: to embed it in your licence key (which is what makes the key personal to you and shows in the app), and to email you that key.
The licence service keeps no database. It signs a key, displays it, emails it, and forgets — there is no customer record on our side to breach or to export. Our email provider, Resend, processes your address in order to deliver that one email. The transaction record itself is held by Stripe as the merchant of record.
Using the licence
The extension checks your key offline, against a cryptographic signature, on your own machine. Activating a key makes no network request, and the extension never reports in. About once a day it downloads one small public file from this site — a signed list of cancelled (refunded) licences — so a refunded key can stop working. That request carries no key, no email and no cookies, and the file is the same for everyone. We therefore have no record of your installations, your usage or your activity, and cannot produce one.
Support email
If you write to us, we keep the correspondence for as long as needed to deal with it and to keep a record of the sale, and no longer than reasonably necessary.
Your rights
Under UK and EU data protection law you can ask for a copy of your personal data, ask us to correct or erase it, or object to our use of it. Email [email protected] and we will respond within one month. In practice the only data we hold is your email address in our support inbox — everything relating to the payment itself is held by Stripe, so requests about billing data should go to them.
Children
Cool Easy Cut is not directed at children and we do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 16.
Changes
If this policy changes, the date at the top of the page changes with it.
